Dear Computer:
This is getting rough.
What was meant to serve as an annual look into the benefits of maintaining a positive mindset and its role as a competitive advantage takes on a different meaning this year. The current situation is so divided and acrimonious that it comes off somewhat disingenuous to suggest that the previous 12 months could have been the best of anyone’s life.
Hear me out though.
This is a period of our lives that will be impossible to forget. Like your Facebook memories, you’ll eventually look back on this stretch of life and reminisce about the period. How will you remember 2020 and 2021? How will your memories be colored by your opinions in these moments?
It’s been incredibly difficult to maintain an air of positivity lately. That’s why it’s so important to do so. There’s an almost tangible need to counter what feels like a tidal wave of negativity. Humanity and caring are in short supply in the cosmos, so bringing light to the darkness has become a rallying cry for those of us intent on making the world a better place.
If you’re willing to join in the effort, you won’t have to look hard to find others bringing their light to the party. If you’re able to see beyond the headlines, you’ll stumble into a throng of others who feel like you, who feel like it’s important to band together, to go farther together instead of soldiering on alone.
Because I’ve made a conscious choice to double down on positivity, I can bring a smile to this page as I reflect on the year that was. I was involved in some amazingly great efforts to make the world better in 2021 and being a part of something bigger than myself on numerous occasions last year leaves me willing to look back fondly on 2021, despite everything that would ordinarily have represented impediments to doing so.
So, yeah, I guess we can chalk this past year up to being pretty, pretty, pretty good! I encourage you to decide for yourself to make 2022 your personal Best. Year. Ever. I’ll see you there.
