Building Resilience

10 Top Qualities for Mental Strength

2/28/2023 | PromoJournal Staff, Now Trending

Everyone meets challenges, but nobody copes with them better than individuals with high resilience. Their mental strength helps them survive and thrive, and if you build similar mental stamina traits, you'll also handle setbacks like a pro.

SELF-WORTH

Self-worth can protect you from unwarranted criticism. You'll accept helpful ideas and reject disparagement when you recognize your value. So fine-tune beneficial habits, and your self-esteem will grow.

Also, recognize that no one is better than you and remember not to compare yourself to others. People's skills vary, but they aren't worthier than you if they possess talents dissimilar to yours. Bear in mind your uniqueness and celebrate what makes you shine.

It will help if you quit self-deprecating talk and inner put-downs. Instead, be positive when you talk about yourself. When your internal critic pipes up, soothe it with kindness like it's your best friend, and your self-worth will rise.

FLEXIBILITY

Resilient people are flexible, and setbacks don't phase them. Even when they have to wait to make changes, they are calm. They alter their course and sail on the easiest route for the wind to carry them. So rather than resist changes, consider their merits--cruise with the wind for plain sailing.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

People with high emotional intelligence can imagine others' views and feelings. Rather than think the world is against them when difficulties arise, they seek understanding. They increase self-development to reduce negative thought patterns.

Your resilience will grow if you imagine yourself in the shoes of people you dislike. When you see from their viewpoint, you will appreciate their motives and make room for compassion. You'll identify negative thoughts and gain strength from positivity.

ACCEPTANCE

Resilient people accept what they can't alter rather than fight difficulties. It's clear to them they can't always have what they want. So they make the best of what's on offer and change their outlook to help them manage events.

Acceptance will magnify your resilience if harnessed at the right time. When you can't change an unwanted situation, revise your mindset. Make the challenge acceptable and learn from it, and your understanding will escalate.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Communication skills boost resilience, assisting self-expression and negotiation. Good communicators explain their needs and cope with demanding people. Their ingenious way with words helps them manage relationships, and they surround themselves with a supportive network of friends.

Pay attention to body language and what people say. Avoid distracting thoughts, and it will be easier to concentrate. Also, tell others what's on your mind if it's essential rather than holding back until you are anxious.

PATIENCE

Patience aids resilience. It gives people time to see the big picture so they don't jump to conclusions. If you're patient, you'll gain wisdom from observing situations as they unfold. Your mental health will also be more robust because you'll meet less anxiety.

Practice mindfulness techniques and your patience will increase. Mindfulness boosts awareness and prevents impatience. If you're frustrated, take deep breaths. Focus on breathing until the tension fades.

HUMOR

People who recognize the funny side of life are less prone to anxiety than those more serious folks. Humor appeases stress and broadens their perspective. They can also laugh off minor mishaps rather than take them to heart.

Watch comedy shows, relax to inflate your sense of humor, and forget about aiming for perfection. Instead, enjoy the fleeting pleasures in life and be open to having your funny bone tickled.

COURAGE

Courageous people are terrific at evading scrapes and engineering positive changes. They take leaps of faith, hoping all will be well but not always knowing their plans will work. The recognition they can cope gives them courage. They know they will deal with setbacks and manage mistakes.

Your courage will snowball if you try something new. So stretch your boundaries. The going won't always be smooth. But you will learn to surmount difficulties and push to achieve what you want.

GOOD HEALTH

Healthy folks are resilient to life's challenges. Physical fitness hikes up their mental health. It helps them handle stress and shake off problems fast. When you're fit, you are stronger than when you suffer from poor health.

If you rarely exercise, increase your daily steps. You need not obsessively track them. Instead, schedule more exercise into your plans. For example, walk in the evenings, jog, or work out at the gym, and your health will soar.

POSITIVITY

Stress can build when you're negative, while positivity helps you relax. Happy-go-lucky folks have a carefree attitude that fosters their well-being.

Nurture gratitude to escalate positivity. For example, recall at least five things you're thankful for daily. Enjoy small wonders like rainbows, purring cats, and birdsong. Seek positivity, and you'll develop a sunny disposition that insulates you from gloom.

Champion an easy-going approach to life, and you'll grow super-resilient. Once your psyche is strong, you'll cope well with any challenges that come your way.
