Creating A Video Series

From Concept To Camera

3/20/2025 | Jessica Onions, Designer Patch

If you haven't seen PromoCorner's video series, Let's Talk Product, then you're missing out. I sat down with host, creator, and my co-worker, Allie Morin, to learn more about how she came up with the concept, what difficulties she faced as a newbie in the industry, and asked her for some advice for anybody thinking about starting their own video series.

When did you graduate, from where, and what's your degree in?

Ahh this is so exciting!! I graduated in May 2024 from Bridgwater State University, majoring in Marketing and a minor in Graphic Design. I started working at PC in June [2024]!

You pretty much created the concept of Let's Talk Product overnight. Can you share how you came up with the idea so quickly?

The concept for LTP actually came to me before my interview. I knew I was applying for a role that involved a video series—something I had zero experience with. Not only was I new to the “real world”, but content creation was completely unfamiliar territory. So, I did my homework. I researched all of PromoCorner’s content, as well as what other promo companies were doing. I took notes on what I liked, what stood out, and what I could incorporate into my own series.

From the start, I knew I wanted LTP to be fast-paced and engaging. Instead of focusing on just one product per episode, I decided to feature five. I also wanted to include a personal touch—sharing my favorite product from each lineup. This would spark conversation and interaction with viewers. Would they agree with my pick? What would their favorite be? Did my choice surprise them? Creating that dialogue was important to me.

I still remember my first day at work—sitting down with the PC team to brainstorm a title, logo, and color scheme. But what they didn’t know was that I had already designed everything. I was so excited to get started, but at the same time, nervous to share my ideas. I hesitated for a moment, then slowly turned my computer around to show them what I had come up with. To my relief, they loved it. That was the first moment I truly felt, I can do this!

That said, LTP wouldn’t be what it is today without the incredible support of the PC team. You only see me in the videos, but every single team member plays a crucial role in bringing this series to life. I couldn’t do it without them! Being new to both the workforce and the promo industry, their patience, encouragement, and kindness mean the world to me. I’m beyond grateful to be part of such an amazing team.

Being new to the industry, what was the hardest part for you when creating this series?

Being new to the promotional products industry, the hardest part for me when creating this series was feeling like I had to prove myself. Being post grad, jumping into an industry full of experienced professionals was intimidating. I worried that people wouldn’t take me seriously or that I didn’t know enough to provide real value.

Another big challenge was simply figuring out where to start. I had all these ideas, but turning them into an actual video series felt overwhelming. From choosing a format to editing and promoting the content, there was a huge learning curve. I had to remind myself that I didn’t need to have everything perfect—I just needed to start and improve along the way.

Also, staying consistent was tough. Some days, I felt super motivated, and other days, I struggled with self-doubt or creative blocks. But I realized that showing up, even when I wasn’t feeling 100%, was key to building momentum and growing my audience.

Despite the challenges, creating this series has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. It’s helped me grow my confidence, connect with amazing people in the industry, and carve out my own space in the promotional products world.

What is some advice you would give to anyone who wants to start their own video series?

Some tips I would give someone is to create something that is unique but can also be repeatable. Consistency is key, so having a format or theme that you can easily produce on a regular basis will help keep your audience engaged.

Make it YOU! When I was creating my logo and color scheme I originally had neutral colors and more of a serious vibe. But that isn't me, I was trying to be someone I am not. Your video series should reflect your personality, style, and interests because authenticity is what will attract and retain viewers. People connect with realness, so don’t be afraid to let your true self shine. I think my logo and all things pink perfectly reflects my personality!

One thing I have to constantly remind myself is that a video series is a creative process. No two weeks look exactly the same, and that’s okay. Each time we film, the product videos improve, and I get more comfortable in front of the camera. Honestly, I cringe watching my first mockup video—but that’s a good thing! It means I’ve grown so much, and I know I’ll continue to improve with every episode.

Any tips on marketing a new video series?

-Release episodes on a set schedule so viewers know when to expect new content

-Use a consistent logo, color scheme, and style to make your series easily recognizable

-Know your content will get better and better as long as you stay consistent

-Don’t be afraid to try new things

-Tag companies to expand more reach

-Posts on ALL socials

-Create fun and detailed descriptions

-Create fun thumbnails, this is the first impression you have on a viewer to make them want to click your video!

Anything else you'd like to share?

I appreciate the chance to share my journey in creating LTP. I hope this blog inspires you to check out the series and follow along as I continue to grow in the industry. I’d love for you to be part of this journey—can’t wait for you to tune in!
