1. Stop taking things personally.
Another driver cut you off. Your friend never texted you back. Your co-worker went to lunch without you. When you ascribe bad intent when there is none, the world becomes a dark place. Happy people do not do this.
2. Turn down the role of starring in your own movie.
This is called "egocentrism." When you think that the world should revolve around you, life is bound to be difficult. It might sound fun to be the star of your own movie, but when people don’t follow your script, your movie is ruined. Lose that script. Let someone else be the star once in awhile. Play a supporting role. Embrace plot twists. Stop trying to win an Academy Award and just enjoy your life.
3. Don’t compare your life to others.
Remember what Teddy Roosevelt said: “Comparison is the thief of joy.”
4. Quit waiting for a sign.
Stop waiting. Make your own sign.
5. Give back.
One great way to make life easier is to immerse yourself in doing good. Volunteer to do something in the community. Become a Rotarian. Get away from your self-absorption. Become more of a giver and less of a taker.
