You’ve been a product safety advocate for some time and it’s one of your passions. Everyone, however, has something in their closet. What would you confess to as something you do or enjoy is hazardous or not in the best interest of safety?
I have to confess to enjoying the occasional cigar. Like so many things, it’s best in moderation, of course. It’s really a social thing for me – I smoke every Thursday afternoon at 4:00 with an eclectic group that just celebrated its 8th anniversary together. Our motto is “good ideas come up in smoke.” I think that says it all!
If you could be any age for a week, what age would that be?
Since I retired two months ago, that’s an easy one. I wouldn’t want to be any other age than what I am right now – I’m enjoying it too much!
If you were a sandwich, which part would you be?
My favorite sandwich is a breaded tenderloin – which is a little hard to get here in the south. We “imported” some from a recent trip to the Midwest, so I guess I’d have to be the meat. Because, without the tenderloin, you’re be left with just bread, Miracle Whip, onions and pickle, and that’s NOT heaven on a bun!
What sound or noise do you love? Hate?
At this point, I can do without hearing the alarm clock, but look forward to the sounds of a summer evening on the deck.
If you were 80 years old, what would you tell your grandchildren?
80 is closer than it used to be, but I am not a grandpa YET. When that day comes, I’ll tell them to slow down and think. There’s two sides to every story, and things are rarely as they seem. Oh, and life’s too short to smoke cheap cigars and drink cheap bourbon.
