A Broken Supply Chain Creates Rare Opportunities

There are segments of the economy racing toward a cliff. Can these businesses realize enough revenue to make the revenue forecast commitments while faced with a worsening-by-the-day supply chain? Will there even be enough goods available to keep our economy afloat as we approach Q4?

I don’t know many business owners NOT faced with that reality in their marketplace. As a result, I feel compelled to urgently and somewhat forcefully say to you:

It's imperative you raise this topic in EVERY business conversation possible, as you AND your clients are in a unique position to take advantage of this looming cliff, if you are willing to put in the work RIGHT NOW and make important decisions on an accelerated timeline.

These discussions require trust from your clients. They require a demonstration of expertise on your part. They require you to increase the level of understanding of not only your clients potential needs, you’ll need to add the right amount of turn-key solutions you’re confident taking to market because you know it’s successful, but even more importantly, it’s available. If you’re sensing the opportunity available in this race to empty shelves but haven’t done some of the things I’m suggesting are necessary to seize that opportunity, your runway for winning is going to be MUCH shorter than it will be for those that have put in the extra work.

Here’s why.

We’ve watched the ways society has embraced merchandise collaborations between mainstream brands, and much like music these days, the real heat is in the collaboration. It’s not just about YOU anymore, it’s all about who you can get to team up with you on something that will drive fans of both brands off-the-charts crazy with glee. This strategy has garnered a lot of attention, and as those brands search for ways to shore up their revenue line, the successes are noted by those who pay attention to those type of trends, trends which invariably find themselves to promo.

If there is increased demand for our medium and a heightened appetite on the part of brands to create marketable items people would want, and you can’t fill that demand, you are going to be an unhappy human come the holidays. Your turkey might taste a little like Aunt Bethany’s at the Griswold Family Christmas, and no one wants that for you.

In what could some ways be seen as a Murphy’s Law kind of moment, embrace the idea that you’re going to have to work to find ways to solve this puzzle and take home ALL the dollars you could possibly make. If you can bring products you KNOW you can get to the people who REALLY want to buy things, you coming thru for them on that order means they will have a chance to stand out against their competitors who chose people who couldn’t. How’s THAT for winning?

If you haven’t yet, call 5 new Suppliers this week and ask them what they have to offer. Call 5 current suppliers and ask them the same, then get to work figuring out what you can sell as a result of those 10 phone calls. You’ll lengthen the time you can collect revenue and make certain your holiday meal is the best ever!
