Show Your Work

This could be difference between you and the competition.

3/12/2019 | Roger Burnett, CAS, The Burn

It’s time to level-up your messaging.

Claims of creativity and experience in sourcing marketing products is the weakest of promotional product value propositions. In most instances, you’re going to need to be able to show your work. If you’re creative as a marketer, your brand-building efforts should result in people seeking YOU out, not the other way around. If you don’t have the goods to show folks you’re what they’re looking for, it’s going to be tremendously difficult to continue to show value. Here’s a recent example I encountered.

An industry friend of mine is currently executing on the production of his 1st ever charity fundraising event. Thru a bit of happenstance and a heavy dose of relationship, in a mere 6 weeks, the event is fully funded and projected to raise 1 MILLION DOLLARS for the designated charity. It’s a remarkable feat that is cause for great celebration. It’s a work in progress managing the logistics of that scale of an event as your 1st pull of the rope, but people are clearly invested in the events’ success.

It’s also a tremendous opportunity for my friend to be able to show his work, and I made a point (strongly recommended, jumped up and down even) to tell him he should hire someone to document what he’s doing. It will be an excellent training exercise video as he adds events to his repertoire, plus, it’s GREAT content that should help to tell the story of the event from a behind-the-scenes perspective, which will add cache to the event for years to come plus present a great chance for potential donors and participants alike to become more emotionally connected to the non-profit by seeing the efforts of those working to produce a top-notch event.

Many of you are doing incredible things and making tremendous differences in the communities where you live and work. By being purposeful about documenting your efforts, you increase the chance for potential clients to develop a deeper relationship with you. The future success of your business could depend on the ability for clients and prospects to see YOU behind-the-scenes.
