Hey, this is Kirby Hasseman with the latest Monday Minute!
The brain is a funny thing. On the one hand, our brains are the most powerful tool at our disposal. It helps keep us alive, think creatively, deal with stress (most of the time), and intentionally build our lives.
On the other hand, our brain can also derail us. We all have thoughts that are constantly scrolling through our minds feeding us both good and bad about our current situations. And if we are not careful, those negative thoughts can overrun us. They can talk us out of some of the most important work that we are meant to do.
And most of the time, those thoughts are the lies of perfection. These thoughts disguise themselves as being in our best interest...but they almost never are. They say things like "you won't be able to do that well, so you should not even try," or "you might embarrass yourself," or even..." you have a good start, but you missed a day, so you might as well give up." These strange thoughts can totally keep us from creating the life we want to create.
One simple trick...give yourself permission not to be perfect. For example, I know that I need to work out in the morning...but sometimes I don't feel like it. So I convince myself to start by "just walking." Once I start walking I often feel like running, and I get a good workout in. But it all starts with me saying...if I only walk...it will be okay.
By giving myself permission to not be perfect, I start. And sometimes, starting is all I need to create momentum I am proud of.
Thanks so much for watching the Monday Minute.
