Flow State & Curiosity

If you schedule every aspect of your life, you may want to consider flow.

11/10/2020 | Sam Kabert, Success with Swag(ger)

I’ve been following my curiosity for the past few months and the results have been tremendous. You see as long as I can remember, I’ve been caught in the masculine traits of scheduling and crossing things off my list.

Through the Mastermind I’m in, Fit for Service, I’ve learned about the benefits of flow and tapping into the divine feminine traits. It’s an uncomfortable place to surrender to flow rather than schedule.

I’ll try explaining it another way… I’ve been a goal-setter for quite some time and as a byproduct of that I have found myself being committed to my calendar. I schedule everything to the point that it took me to wake up with Ayahuasca to realize that all this chasing of goals and crossing things off my list is leading to just further unhappiness. Flow is what I’m currently in and by being in flow I’m not letting the stress of the “should's”, “have to’s” and even “ought to’s” get in the way.

Getting into Flow State

So, how does one get into “flow”?

The most surefire way to get into any sort of flow state is by following your curiosity. Said differently, it’s to listen for the whispers and trust the intuition of your gut.

I realized the power of following my curiosity during a recent road trip. I was in Malibu a couple months ago for a plant medicine ceremony with the intention of understanding on a deeper level why I’m here and what my purpose is during this incarnation. What I walked away with was the lesson of curiosity.

Normally, when I make the 6 hour trip from Northern California down to Southern California I try to get there as quick as possible and when my trip is done I try to get home even faster. However, this trip back home was different. In total it took me about 12 hours to get back to Nor Cal from Southern California and not because I’m a slow driver. Rather, I intentionally took the scenic coastal path and with that came many whispers.

The first of which was to stop in the coastal town of Avila Beach and paddle boarding for a couple of hours. My brain told me to get back on the road, but my heart told me to stop to check out this quaint beach village. I played the game of listening to my brain versus my heart several times before I eventually paddle boarded out to a giant rock in the ocean only to beach my board on the sand and head to my next adventure on the cliffs with the crashing sound of the waves which made for a beautiful place to meditate and reflect.

The point is that to enter the flow state we need to follow our curiosity and curiosity comes from our hearts; not our brains.

The Benefits of Flow

We all have been in flow state at some point in our lives, and many people have learned to live in flow the majority of their life. Being in flow allows us to surf the waves of life rather than swimming upstream.

We want to flow with the river. We’ve all been there where it just feels like nothing can go right and we just keep banging our heads against the wall. When you feel the resistance, it’s a good time to pause and reflect. Or as Porangui would say “stop, listen, and breathe”.

Being in flow allows us to operate from our heart space which radiates warm to others around us and has a ripple effect on our planet.

Being in flow brings more joy, peace and understanding to our being.

Being in flow makes working on any sort of project seamless.

If you’re feeling like something is off with you right now, which many of us are feeling these days… then I invite you to “stop, listen and breathe”. Listen to the whispers, follow your intuition and explore your curiosity.

To Your Curiosity,

Sam
