What Are You Waiting For?

The question that both frees me and haunts me

8/20/2021 | Sam Kabert, Success with Swag(ger)

All too often we get stuck in a waiting game for perfection conditions, despite knowing that there is no perfect time.

Life is a series of moments and the only true time there is is the present moment. Not the future, not the past. So, when I’m stuck procrastinating I ask myself the question that both haunts me and frees me, “What am I waiting for?”.

I believe in self-fulfilling prophecies in that stories become our reality. For some unknown reason we tend to build up the story by waiting for perfect conditions. As we feed the story it only gets bigger and harder to tackle.

I’ve been on both sides of the fence. I’ve been guilty of waiting just as much as I’ve said no to this paradigm and took inspired action. I’ll tell you that inspired action feels a lot better than being stuck in a victim mentality of waiting for things to be just right - which in reality is just procrastination.

I have noticed a freeing trend in recent years. It's rewarding when I take a look around at the world’s pulse and notice people stepping up left and right. More and more people have said no to the programming of being in the system and have said yes to what lights them up.

We all have something within us craving to be born into the world and the only thing holding us back is...well, us.

Currently, I’m in one of my phases where I’m waiting. It’s unfamiliar territory to be honest because I’ve designed my life around inspired action. My motto, for as long as I can remember, has been, “I’ll figure it out as I go along”. But, for some reason this next project in me has been stalled. I’ve been in a nonsensical state of chasing perfection for nearly two years. I have a vision of where I’m going but the anxiety of not knowing how to get there has plagued me from taking inspired action. That is until awareness.

Awareness is one of the most important traits (it’s a shame that there isn’t more emphasis around awareness in the upbringing of our youth). Imagine a world where people honored their feelings and emotions instead of bottling them up only to burst at the seams with anger, jealousy and fear. Built up emotion can cause massive devastation.

That’s not what I’m here to talk about specifically though. I’m simply talking about having the awareness to check on yourself to see why you do the things you do.

Having the awareness of not taking action is the way I intend on getting to a state of inspired action. Sounds simple, right? That’s because it is!

You see, for far too long I didn’t have awareness around what was happening so I just bottled it up and looked the other way. By consciously choosing to address what’s going on in my inner landscape, I’m able to free myself.

So my intention with these words is to extend an invitation to you...

Where are you hiding from yourself?

What inside you is craving to be birthed into the world?

How can you honor where you’re at without bypassing it as an excuse to wait?

Ask yourself these simple questions through journaling, meditation or simple reflection. They might just be your ticket to a more fulfilling life.
