PPEF Awards $150,000 in College Scholarships
The Promotional Products Education Foundation (PPEF), the industry's nonprofit founded to recognize and encourage scholastic excellence and academic performance among promotional products industry employees and their college-aged children, announced the 106 recipients of its 2015 academic scholarships. PPEF is awarding 77 new and 29 renewal scholarships to selected recipients who displayed remarkable academic achievement, extracurricular participation and community service. Each will be awarded between $1,000 and $5,000. The $150,000 total represents a $25,000 increase over last year.
"Awarding $150,000 is a testament to the wonderful, generous companies and individuals who are giving back to the industry through their support of PPEF," said Sara Besly, PPEF manager. "The Foundation is also increasing support for students demonstrating financial need. Starting this year, recipients of Four-Year Need Scholarships will receive $8,000 over four years and recipients of One-Year Need Scholarships will receive $2,000. Our goal is to provide more assistance to those who need it most.”
PPEF has been supporting the education goals of industry professionals and their families for the past 26 years and has awarded more than $1.3 million in financial assistance to almost 900 recipients since its inception in 1989.

Hanesbrands Cracks Fortune 500
Hanesbrands declared that the company has made the Fortune 500 list of America’s largest companies for the first time. Hanes, a leading global marketer of everyday basic innerwear and activewear apparel, is one of five apparel companies on the Fortune 500.
Hanes ranks No. 490 on the list of largest American public companies by revenue published in the Fortune magazine issue dated June 15, 2015, and accessible on newsstands. Hanes made the list after posting record sales of $5.32 billion in 2014, up 15 percent over the company’s previous record for sales in 2013.
S&S Promotional Group Buys Sporting Goods Firm
West Fargo, ND-based Valley Sporting Goods has been purchased by S&S Promotional Group Inc. of Fargo. S&S had been doing screen printing work for the retailer and when the business became available, S&S determined it was a good fit and decided to make the purchase.
